2017 Travel Roundup & 2018 Sneak Peek

2017 Travel Roundup

Well, I have to admit, 2017 wasn’t a huge year of personal travel for me. After getting engaged in Thailand in November 2016, my focus has been elsewhere! In 2017, we added to our family (a puppy!), bought a house, remodeled said house, my fiance traveled a lot for work and I changed careers (where I get to talk about travel all day!) Oh and let’s not forget, we have been planning our wedding and honeymoon!! Phewww. Somewhere in between all of that we did manage to get out of town a few times and have one final trip planned for the end of December. So without further adieu let’s get to my 2017 Travel Roundup!

April: New York City

In April, I went to one of my best friends’ Bachelorette party in New York City! It was the perfect girl’s getaway for some fun in the city. New York has always been one of my favorite city’s and this trip did nothing besides confirm that for me. It truly has everything. If I could only visit one city in the United States (thank God that isn’t the case!) I would pick NYC. I truly hope it makes it always makes it onto my yearly travel roundup.

May: Charlottesville, Virginia

What is a Bachelorette party without a spectacularly gorgeous wedding following it? Unfortunately this year, Charlottesville has been the brunt of a lot negative media attention. However, when we visited I found it to be nothing but gorgeous (seriously take a look at that view! Can you say wedding goals?) on top of charming. It is just the cutest town filled wineries. Who wouldn’t like that? Plus, two of my friend’s said their “I do’s” and it was everything my heart needed.

October: Scottsdale, Arizona

Seriously most of my travels have revolved around weddings lately. And next year will be no different. The only difference with this trip is that it was for my Bachelorette! My brother (Man of Honor in the house!) planned a fantastic weekend away with my closest girls. It was filled with fun in the sun, a giant swan, Cads About Matrimony (AKA the best game ever!), and just a few drinks before a night out on the town. It was so great to spend time with such special women (and man) and I loved every second of it. Shout out to my Man of Honor!

December: Cabarete, Dominican Republic

Woooo!! This is our big trip for 2017 and we couldn’t be more excited. With everything we have had going on this year, we haven’t taken a proper vacation. The fiance worked during our trip to Charlottesville and other than that hasn’t taken any time off. And up until I changed jobs in October, I had only taken 2 days of vacation. And while my schedule has drastically changed I have been super busy and haven’t taken anytime. Needless to say, we are really ready to celebrate Christmas on a white sandy beach with a drink in hand!

We are visiting Cabarete for 10 days where we will be joining my family for the holidays. My parents are super awesome and took a 6-week sabbatical to Amsterdam, Tanzania, and the Dominican Republic to celebrate their 60th Birthdays (and 36th wedding anniversary)! I just want to be them when I grow up. Anywhoo, my brother, his wife, the fiance and myself are joining them at the end of their trip to celebrate the holidays!

Have no fear, I will be not only sharing everything about our trip to the Dominican Republic but also doing a Q&A style blog post with parents to talk about all their adventures and any travel tips and tricks they may have. They are such rockstars – proving it is never too late to reach Greater Altitudes!

2018 Travel Preview

So there you all have it! While my 2017 Travel Roundup wasn’t as long as it has been in years past, it certainly was a great year – filled with lots of love and laughs. However, it does have me itching for more adventures so let’s talk 2018 plans. I honestly can’t believe we are already talking about 2018. It feels like just yesterday Jeremy and I were discussing have a 2018 wedding and how far off that seemed…boy, can a 15-month engagement fly by or what!

So here is what is currently on the travel agenda for 2018.

January: Palm Springs for, you guessed it, a wedding!

February: Lisbon and Barcelona for our honeymoon!! I can’t wait to get back to Spain! Check out why we are skipping the typical beach honeymoon here!

Beach in Barcelona

March: Calgary, Canada to visit my brother and sister-in-law and to support them as they open their new brewery: Born Colorado Brewing! Seriously, how cool is my family?

May: Las Vegas, Nevada to attend a work conference to learn more about how to make all of my client’s romance travels perfect. Since this will be my first time in Vegas (shook, I know) I will probably tack on a night at the beginning or end of my trip. Who wants to come with??

June: New York City will be making it on to my 2018 Travel Roundup! We will be going for a… wait for it…wedding! I am so excited to get out East and show the fiance this amazing city!

Phew! That is all I have planned right now, however, I have a feeling that won’t be the last of my travels in 2018!

Where are you going in 2018? Are you checking anything off your bucket list? Planning a wedding or just planning on attending a wedding? I can’t wait to see where this year takes us all!

Until Next Time,

Ellen
